Sara-Igbe, a former spokesperson for the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), disclosed that Governor ’s offer to resign stemmed from various issues, including the constraints on his ability to control the state’s finances and interference preventing him from asserting his independence.

The former governor’s frustration with the system became apparent when he sought to address the decline in internally generated revenue (IGR) and the allocation of funds from the federation account. Sara-Igbe explained, “Before Wike left government, the state was making over N10bn internally generated revenue (monthly). When he left, the IGR came down to N6bn.”

Furthermore, raised concerns about the allocation of funds tied to specific projects by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

This practice, according to Sara-Igbe, limited the governor’s ability to manage the state’s resources effectively. Faced with these challenges, Governor Fubara considered resignation, a decision that was only averted through the intervention of some PDP leaders.
