Ailing Ondo Governor Akeredolu Seeks Tinubu’s Help for Air Ambulance to Germany amid Health Deterioration.
In a distressing turn of events, Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s health has taken a severe hit as he battles leukemia, undergoing chemotherapy in Nigeria.
The treatment, reportedly leaving him incapacitated for up to 10 hours after each session, has prompted his son, Babajide, to seek urgent assistance from President Bola Tinubu.
Sources revealed that Governor Akeredolu’s condition has worsened to the point where he can no longer speak. In a bid to expedite his father’s return to Germany, where he initially received treatment, Babajide is requesting an air ambulance with the support of President Tinubu.
President Tinubu recently directed Governor Akeredolu to transfer power to Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim.
The transfer, to be executed through electronic signature (e-signature), is deemed necessary due to the governor’s weakened state, preventing him from physically signing documents.
Monday’s emergency meeting, called by President Tinubu to address leadership issues arising from the governor’s prolonged absence since July 2023, marked the second attempt to resolve the crisis.
The decision to transfer power through e-signature was met with some reservations, considering the potential legal complications.
Pro-democracy organization Take-It-Back Movement has added pressure for Governor Akeredolu’s resignation, threatening mass protests across Ondo State starting December 16.
