The Ondo State House of Assembly has chosen a new speaker to preside over its deliberations for the next four years.
Hon. Olamide Oladiji, popularly known as Landmark from the Ondo East constituency, has emerged as the 10th assembly’s new Speaker.
Oladiji secured the position of Speaker with the unanimity of fellow assembly members, while Prince Abayomi Akinruntan of Ilaje Constituency 1 was elected as Deputy Speaker.
Earlier on Friday, the former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr. Bamidele Oloyeloogun, vehemently denied authorship of a purported resignation letter.
The letter, dated 1 June 2023 and addressed to the Clerk of the House, asserted that the speaker had resigned. Oloyeloogun quickly issued a statement refuting the letter’s authenticity, claiming that it was a forgery and did not originate from him or the House of Assembly. His response was contained within a statement titled ‘I Remain Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly.’
The situation necessitated increased security measures around the assembly location to ensure the continuity of legislative activities.
