In the aftermath of the devastating explosion that shook Ibadan on Tuesday evening, Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, is calling on Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to identify and bring to justice the alleged illegal miners believed to be behind the tragic incident.

According to Ejesgist news, the explosion resulted in the loss of two lives, 77 injuries, and extensive damage to buildings and vehicles in the Bodija area of the Oyo State capital. Sowore, a prominent activist, took to his social media platform to pose crucial questions regarding the incident.

Sowore questioned the speed at which Governor Makinde attributed the explosion to illegal miners without conducting a thorough investigation.

In a series of tweets, he highlighted the importance of a meticulous inquiry, emphasizing that even in developed countries, such incidents require at least 48 hours for a comprehensive government statement.

“Posers for the Governor of Oyo State @seyimakinde and Security agencies regarding the deadly #IbadanBlast last night,” Sowore posted. He sought answers to who the illegal miners were, what they were mining, and why they possessed such powerful explosives.

The activist demanded transparency, urging the governor to disclose any knowledge of explosives dealers in the high-brow neighborhood, questioning whether the government was previously aware of such activities and failed to act.

Sowore Urges Gov Makinde To Reveal Identity Of Those Responsible For Ibadan Explosion

Sowore pressed for the identity of the miner involved, emphasizing the necessity of an immediate release of information. He raised concerns about the procedure for mining and using explosives, pointing out that explosions rarely occur without a trigger, such as ignition or fire.

Additionally, Sowore questioned the awareness of the Oyo state government, specifically Governor Makinde, regarding mining activities in the Agodi residential area. He called for clarity on whether the government was conducting rock blasting in a residential area and if proper safety measures were in place.

Drawing attention to the Department of State Services (DSS), Sowore stressed the need for a preliminary report from the agency on the matter. Given the DSS’s role in approving the use of explosives across Nigeria, citizens expect transparency and timely information.
