President has expressed deep sorrow and concern over the tragic explosion that shook Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Tuesday night.

The incident claimed the lives of two individuals, left 80 others wounded, and caused extensive damage to buildings, vehicles, and properties.

In a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, on Wednesday, Tinubu lamented the attribution of the blast to the activities of illegal miners.

Tinubu Describes As Reckless Behavior By It’s Perpetrators

The President emphasized the need to hold accountable those responsible for the “inexcusable and reckless behavior” that led to the devastating incident.

“It is worrisome that the cause of the blast is being attributed to the activities of illegal miners. Those behind the inexcusable and reckless behavior that has created the conditions for the sad incident to occur must be fished out and punished,” stated President Tinubu.

The President also extended his condolences to the government and people of Oyo State and urged relevant government agencies to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Additionally, he directed the National Emergency Management Agency to collaborate with the Oyo State Government to provide immediate and comprehensive relief to the victims.

Meanwhile, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, revealed on Wednesday that preliminary investigations by security agencies suggested the explosion was caused by explosive devices stored by illegal miners in Dejo Oyelese Street, Bodija.

The impact of the explosion extended to the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Oyo State House of Assembly, and various residential and commercial areas.

The Governor, who visited the scene on Tuesday night, assured the public that further investigations were ongoing. He emphasized that those found culpable for the tragic incident would be brought to justice.

“Preliminary investigations by the security agencies revealed that illegal miners occupying one of the houses in Bodija had stored explosive devices there which caused the blast.

The investigations are ongoing. All those found culpable for this will be brought to book,” tweeted Governor Makinde on Wednesday.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of the explosion, the call for justice and accountability remains at the forefront, with both President Tinubu and Governor Makinde emphasizing the need for a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident.
