Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has voiced concerns about moles within the current administration working covertly for the opposition. Although not specifying the opposing party, Onanuga asserted the existence of individuals leaking sensitive documents and urged the Federal Government to take decisive action.

Government Investigation Launched

Onanuga highlighted an ongoing investigation into the civil service framework initiated by the Presidency to identify and remove these “moles.” The move comes in response to the alleged leak of an internal memo, indicating President Tinubu’s approval of N500 million for the inauguration of a Tripartite Committee discussing the New National Minimum Wage. This leaked information suggested a disbursement from a total of N1 billion earmarked for the committee, with Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, named as the recipient.

Expressing displeasure at the unauthorized disclosure, Onanuga emphasized the need for robust actions to maintain the security of classified information. He raised questions about the leaking of official memos, stressing the importance of identifying and addressing the fifth columnists within the government.

Opposition Party PDP Criticizes Spending:

In response, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) condemned Tinubu’s purported approval of N500 million for the committee’s inauguration. The PDP, through its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, criticized the alleged financial recklessness, describing it as the height of profligacy. The party called on Tinubu to address the nation on the matter, especially considering the economic challenges faced by Nigerians.

As the controversy unfolds, the nation awaits further developments on the investigation into the alleged leaks and financial decisions within Tinubu’s administration.
