Ikenna Chimezie, Nigerian man in critical condition after failed attempt to assassinate Guyana President
After an unsuccessful attempt to kill the President of Guyana, Irfaan Ali, a Nigerian man and a police officer were both rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital in critical condition.
On Thursday, December 15, the Guyana Police Force announced that a request had been sent to the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) for more information on the Nigerian man who had staged a daring knife and gun attack on the Presidential Guards at the Guyana State House, which resulted in him being shot and injured.

The man’s name is Bethel Ikenna Chimezie, and he has been identified as the perpetrator of the attack.
Chimezie, who is 35 years old, was reportedly put through a series of operations to treat the gunshot wounds to his head, torso, and leg that he sustained when Presidential Guards opened fire on him.
According to a senior police officer, “The GPF has requested via INTERPOL a comprehensive background check on him; also whether he has any criminal history or whether he is linked to any criminal group.”
Nigerian man attempts to kill President of Guyana
Earlier, police had stated that the man had entered the south-eastern guard room of the State House at approximately 7:30 in the morning and demanded to see the President.
It is alleged that he produced a knife and used it to stab a law enforcement officer multiple times in the neck and other parts of his body.

According to the police, Chimezie was also responsible for stealing a firearm from a Presidential Guard, running out of the guard room onto Carmichael Street, and firing multiple shots. A 9mm pistol along with seven spent 9mm cartridges were found, according to the police.
