Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the opposition New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has been urged by the Northern Liberal Democratic Movement (NLDM) to withdraw from the race in favour of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Atiku Abubakar.
According to the group, the sentiment and opinion of regional and national stakeholders are against the former governor of Kano‘s decision.

The statement was made yesterday in Abuja by the movement’s National Secretary, Balarabe Ali Bello.
In his statement, Bello asserted that, in addition to the sentiment of the region’s residents, he is unfavorablely affected by the fact that scores of NNPP chieftains and members are defecting to the PDP across the region.

In the past few weeks, the NNPP has lost several prominent members to the PDP, with the most recent being the Deputy Governorship Candidates in Niger and Yobe States. Also the party chairman in Kaduna and the secretary for the North East zone. This chieftain defected alongside a large number of his followers.

Prior to that, over 700,000 members of defected to the PDP in Bauchi state’s North East zone, prompting many regional stakeholders to urge Kwankwaso to throw in the towel.
“I join other well-intentioned Northerners in imploring our brother, His Excellency, distinguished Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to consider the overwhelming interest of our people.
“He is a young man who will receive his opportunities at the right time.
“The rate at which many members of his party are defecting to the PDP should serve as a clear signal to him to act in the best interests of the people of the North and the nation,” Bello said.
