Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, has come under heavy fire from the majority of Nigerians in the South East region for saying that they will continue to be marginalized unless they cast a large number of votes for him to win the presidency.
On Wednesday, while in Enugu for the state’s presidential campaign rally at Michael Okpara Square, Tinubu made this statement.

He claimed that if they don’t work hard to support his presidential campaign, their region will only receive “soaked sliced bread.”
Igbos should “work hard, sweat for this party until they deliver victory for him,” the APC National Leader said.
“But no one will give you any credit, even though you are working hard and currently perspiring. Up until you deliver the victory, we want you to exert good effort for this party.
We won’t give you anything but a soaked slice of bread until Bola Tinubu is elected president of Nigeria.

Two Igbo governors, Dave Umahi and Hope Uzodinma of the states of Ebonyi and Imo, respectively, welcomed Tinubu with open arms.
Senator Andy Ubah, Chief Gbazuagu Nweke Gbazuagu, and the APC governorship candidates from the southeast states were among the other prominent APC figures present.

Igbo-speaking Nigerians misinterpreted his remarks as a threat and insult while he was speaking to APC members in Enugu and the surrounding area.
Most of the criticism directed at the former governor of Lagos State has been posted on social media; a few of these remarks are shown below from Twitter.

@firstladyship said that Tinubu “took his time” to disparage the entire South East with “soaked bread” in Enugu. “He did that in front of Dave Umahi and Hope Uzodinma. Igbos gave con artists like Chimaroke Nnamani permission to seize full control of their essence. Because you granted them that authority, people defame you.
