Tobi Amusan, the reigning world champion and world record-holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, has been charged by the World Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for allegedly missing three tests within a 12-month period.

The charges were revealed after Amusan’s victory in the women’s 100m hurdles event at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial meet in Hungary, where she clocked an impressive time of 12.35 seconds, defeating Nia Ali and Alaysha Johnson from the United States.

Amusan took to her social media handle, @ihurdle_33.0inches, in the early hours of Wednesday to address the charges. In a lengthy post, she stated her intention to fight the doping charges and have her case decided by a tribunal of three arbitrators before the start of next month’s World Championships.

Amusan asserted her status as a clean athlete and emphasized that she is regularly tested for doping by the AIU, even being tested shortly after her third alleged missed test. She expressed her faith in a favorable resolution and her determination to compete at the upcoming World Championships.

Amid these challenges, Amusan’s performance on Tuesday was commendable as she secured victory at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial meet. Her recent form has been impressive, including her first-place finish at the Diamond League meeting in Silesia on Sunday. However, she will need to resolve the charges brought against her by the AIU to have the opportunity to defend her 100m hurdles world titles at the World Championships in Budapest next month.

She remains optimistic about her progress and determined to overcome these obstacles to continue her successful career in athletics.
