Tukur Mamu: Key Figure as FG Identifies

, publisher of Desert Herald, takes the spotlight as the federal government reveals nine individuals and six operators allegedly involved in financing terrorism.

In an email titled “Designation of Individuals and Entities for March 18, 2024,” the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) disclosed the identities of those suspected of sponsoring terrorism. The revelation comes after the Nigeria Sanctions Committee convened on March 18, 2024, recommending sanctions against these entities.

Tukur Mamu top the list persons financing terrorism.

Among the individuals named for financing terrorism are:

  1. Tukur Mamu
  2. Yusuf Ghazali
  3. Muhammad Sani
  4. Abubakar Muhammad
  5. Sallamudeen Hassan
  6. Adamu Ishak
  7. Hassana-Oyiza Isah
  8. Abdulkareem Musa
  9. Umar Abdullahi

The BDC firms implicated include:

  2. Settings Bureau De Change Limited
  3. G. Side General Enterprises
  4. Desert Exchange Ventures Limited
  5. Eagle Square General Trading Company Limited
  6. Alfa Exchange BDC

The document also outlined stringent measures in accordance with Section 54 of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, requiring institutions and individuals to freeze assets belonging to the designated persons and entities, report such assets to the Sanctions Committee, and file Suspicious Transactions Reports to the NFIU.

Tukur Mamu’s inclusion in the list comes amidst previous allegations. Last year, he was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) over alleged terrorism-related activities.

As the federal government intensifies efforts to combat terrorism financing, Tukur Mamu’s prominence in this list underscores the gravity of the issue and the necessity for decisive action.
