“He and his boss, Buhari, are ultimately responsible for allowing this to occur, as it was ultimately his decision to allow it to occur. He [Emefiele] is the expert, however, he is the one who provides advice and carries out the policies.”

Soyinka alleged that the CBN governor had brought the nation to a state of despair.

On March 22 that Emefiele admitted that Nigerians had difficulty conducting online banking transactions as a result of the flood of online transactions that hit Nigeria’s banking industry during the cash crunch.

The CBN governor who apologised for the online transaction failures stated that the apex bank would maintain the current monetary tightening regime as a result of the continued rise in headline inflation, which has posed significant economic risks for Nigeria.

He had said, “I must apologise. Yes, online channels fail. The banking industry has been hit by a deluge of online transactions, without question. However, it’s being resolved.
