EFCC Seizes Passports of Betta Edu and Sadiya Umar-Farouq; Interrogations Continue Today.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken custody of the travel documents belonging to the suspended minister, Betta Edu, and her predecessor, Sadiya Umar-Farouq. Both are under investigation for suspected financial malfeasance during their respective tenures at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.

In addition, the EFCC has reportedly confiscated the passport of Halima Shehu, the former National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme (NSIPA), who is also being investigated for the alleged embezzlement of N44.8 billion. The commission claims to have recovered approximately N39.8 billion of the embezzled funds.
Betta Edu Faces Extended Interrogation
Following a lengthy interrogation session on Tuesday that lasted over 10 hours at the EFCC headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, Betta Edu, aged 37, was released on bail late in the evening.

She has been instructed to report daily to the EFCC office regarding the ongoing probe into an alleged N585 million disbursement fraud.
Edu, accompanied by her aides and lawyer, is scheduled to appear at the EFCC office again on Wednesday, starting from 11 am, for further questioning.
The suspension of Betta Edu by President Bola Tinubu came amid a N585 million disbursement scandal involving the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs. President Tinubu ordered a comprehensive investigation into the financial transactions related to the ministry and its affiliated agencies.

Umar-Farouq’s Continued Interrogation
Simultaneously, the EFCC continued its questioning of Sadiya Umar-Farouq on Tuesday for the second consecutive day. The former minister is facing an inquiry into an alleged laundering of N37.1 billion during her tenure.
After an extensive interrogation on Tuesday, Umar-Farouq was allowed to leave but is expected to return on Wednesday for further clarifications on various issues flagged during the preliminary investigations.
