Countdown Begins: NSCIA Sets Tentative Dates for Ramadan 2024
The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has officially announced the tentative dates of Monday, March 11, and Tuesday, March 12, 2024, as the starting days for the 2024 Ramadan fasting. This is contingent upon the sighting of the moon after sunset on Sunday, March 10.
The statement, signed by Deputy Secretary-General Prof Salisu Shehu, indicates that the NSCIA, led by Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, is actively encouraging Muslims to search for the crescent of Ramadan 1445 on Sunday, equivalent to the 29th Sha’aban 1445 AH.

If Muslims of impeccable character sight the crescent on Sunday evening, the Sultan will declare Monday, March 11, as the first day of Ramadan 1445 AH. Alternatively, if the crescent is not sighted on Sunday, then Tuesday, March 12, automatically becomes the first day of Ramadan, 1445 AH.
The NSCIA emphasizes the importance of credible sightings, urging those with such information to inform the National Moon Sighting Committee.
NSCIA Urges Rich Muslims To Show Acts Of Kindness
In a compassionate stance, the NSCIA calls upon affluent Muslims to extend acts of charity to the less privileged, considering the economic hardships in the country. Prof Salisu Shehu specifically addresses traders, urging them not to hoard food products or unduly hike prices during the fasting period.
Moreover, the NSCIA scribe highlights the significance of the holy month beyond fasting, urging Muslims to pray for Palestinians who are currently facing devastating attacks from Israel.
