Naval officer Beat Police Officer, blows up nose of cop in Delta

 

Navy personnel in Effurun, Delta State, stormed the Enerhen Police Divisional Headquarters in the Uvwie Local Government Area of the state, severely beating a police sergeant named Kingsley.

According to reports, the naval personnel is a newly commissioned officer assigned to the Nigeria Navy Ship (NNS Delta) in Warri.

A video clip viewed by our correspondent depicted a police officer with a bloodied nose who was eager for a fight while others attempted to calm him down.

 

In the background of the video, random gunshots could be heard as people began to flee to safety.

After allegedly invading the Enerhen Police Divisional Headquarters in the Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State and assaulting the on-duty police sergeant, the police officer was reportedly beaten.

 

This is said to have resulted in gunfire in the vicinity of the station as early as 7:30 a.m. on Friday, forcing nearby shop owners to quickly close their doors.

During the chaos, area residents who were taking their children to school or going to work were forced to return home for safety until the gunfire subsided.

The invasion’s cause could not be determined immediately.

It was discovered, however, that the Navy personnel were at the Police Station to request the release of a relative who had been arrested and abused by station officers.

By the time journalists arrived at the station, none of the officers were prepared to comment on the incident, but the area had returned to normalcy.

 

Navy Commander Samuel Musa, Base Operations Officer, NNS Delta, Warri, did not respond to calls and text messages.

According to sources, the naval personnel involved in the incident have been detained while an investigation is conducted.

 

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Delta Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, has yet to respond to our correspondent’s inquiries prior to the filing of this report.
