The statement, issued on Thursday, underscored that the Nigerian Army operates as a professional institution, guided by established protocols for the discharge and retirement of both soldiers and officers. The army drew parallels with other organizations that similarly follow a structured process for personnel changes.

The online media report, published on Wednesday, claimed that 25 soldiers from the Armour Corp had submitted applications for voluntary retirement, citing alleged corruption within the ranks. The army swiftly refuted these claims, characterizing them as an “implausible effort to frantically dampen the morale and fighting will” of the dedicated troops and to undermine the unity of the Nigerian Army and the country.

The statement reiterated that the Nigerian Army is a volunteer-based institution, and individuals within the organization possess the right to seek voluntary discharge or retirement as long as they fulfill the conditions specified in the Harmonized Terms and Conditions of Service Soldiers/Ratings/Airmen (Revised) 2017.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) has the authority to approve voluntary discharge when applicants meet the established criteria. This process, the statement affirmed, is in line with the army’s principles of integrity, probity, and professionalism.

The Nigerian Army highlighted its ongoing commitment to fostering a conducive work environment for its personnel, including improving operational capabilities, timely payment of operational allowances, support for wounded-in-action soldiers, medical evacuation services, and provision of suitable accommodation.

As the Nigerian Army sets the record straight on the circumstances of the soldiers’ voluntary resignations, the organization’s commitment to professionalism and its dedication to the nation’s security and well-being remain at the forefront of its priorities.
