This directive comes in response to resolutions made by the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government during its recent extraordinary summit held in Abuja.

According to a statement released by his special adviser on media and publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu also instructed the swift lifting of various sanctions imposed on Niger.

These sanctions, which included the closure of land and air borders, suspension of commercial and financial transactions, and travel bans on government officials, were part of measures taken in response to certain developments within the region.

The decision to reopen borders and lift sanctions underscores Nigeria’s commitment to fostering diplomatic relations and promoting regional integration. It aligns with ECOWAS leaders’ consensus to ease economic restrictions on Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea.

By lifting barriers to trade and cooperation, the move is poised to enhance economic activities and facilitate cross-border exchanges between Nigeria and its neighbours.

The swift implementation of these directives is expected to contribute to stability and development across the region, fostering a conducive environment for mutual growth and prosperity.
