Commissioners’ list: Adeleke speaks on nominating daughter uncle

The Governor of Osun State, , has denied the allegations that he nominated his biological daughter and uncle as cabinet members in the state.

On Friday, July 7, 2023, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, publicly announced the list of cabinet nominees for Osun State.

One of the nominees is Mrs. Adenike Folasade Adeleke, who is the wife of the late elder brother of Governor Adeleke, Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke.

Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, the late elder Adeleke, was the first executive governor of Osun State and a three-term senator representing Osun West Senatorial District. He passed away in April 2017.

Another nominee on the list is Prof. Maroon Adeleke, who is not related to the governor in any way.

In a statement issued by Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor asserted that the report is untrue and clarified that neither of the two nominees is his daughter or uncle.

“Prof. Adeleke was born in Ilesa and is from Osogbo, the state capital. Mrs. Adeleke is the daughter of Chief Omidiran of Osogbo Land and the wife of the late Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Isiaka Adeleke,” the statement read.

“We expected those spreading the false news to engage in basic investigative journalism if they have any genuine intentions. However, if their goal is to defame the state governor, the truth cannot be concealed, as the nominees are genuine indigenes of Osogbo land.

“We, therefore, urge the public to disregard these purveyors of fake news. No member of the governor’s biological family is included in the cabinet list. Governor Adeleke is committed to a fair distribution of appointments based on competence, inclusivity, and representation across sectors.”

Immediately after the Osun Assembly made the list public on Friday, some news outlets, excluding Ejes Gist News Nigeria, reported that Adenike Folasade Adeleke is the governor’s daughter.
