In a surprising move, twenty-seven members of the State House of Assembly, loyal to Wike, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in an attempt to impeach the governor. Tinubu intervened to broker peace between the warring factions, a move that many believed disadvantaged Governor Fubara.
