She revealed that she was once slapped by a dementia patient while caring for an elderly person, which led her to quit her job and open a clothing business.

Alao advised people to acquire a skill before relocating abroad. I always advise people looking to relocate to learn a skill like fashion designing, hairdressing, or cooking. When I first came to Canada, I had to learn a course to become a caregiver. So, I attended school for a year. While caring for an elderly woman, she slapped me,” she said.

“I had bathed and clothed her, and she had dementia. She complained about her earring, so when I went to check on her, she gave me a hard slap, and I began to cry. The nurses nearby came to us after hearing the commotion, and that was the day I decided I wasn’t doing that anymore.”

Alao continued, “Then I decided to open a boutique and my lounge, LA Lounge, in two locations. However, I later left the store and started selling from home. Now, I plan to get a new store for my boutique.”

Before venturing into acting with the Nigerian television program ‘Ripples’, Alao was an air hostess. Since then, she has starred in several movies, including ‘Alaanu Mi’, ‘Dokita Alabere’, ‘Ewe Koko’, and ‘Gbokogboko’.

Displaying remarkable composure, Naziru managed to remove the bullet himself and was promptly taken to the Government House clinic for medical attention.

Nollywood Actress Shan George Cries Out for Help as N3.6 Million Disappears from Her Bank Account

Veteran Nollywood actress Shan George has made a desperate plea for help after discovering that a staggering N3.6 million had vanished from her Zenith bank account on Friday. The distraught actress took to her Instagram page to share her distress, revealing that the money was transferred to an Opay account belonging to a certain Cecilia Chiagoziem Okoro.

George, clearly distraught and worried about her livelihood, begged Zenith Bank, Opay, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for assistance, saying “That’s everything I have in my whole life. What will I eat?” The actress posted the debit alert on her page, stating that she was finding it difficult to access her app.

In a heart-wrenching cry for help, George wrote, “I need help cos I’m dying. This person has just cleared my account. Please, my people, everyone, please help. Please, Zenith Bank, reverse it. I can’t access my app. I’m dead.”

Appeal Court Rules on Dismissal of Unmarried Pregnant Police Officers from Service

Appeal Court Decides Unmarried Pregnant Police Officers’ Dismissal Unlawful.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has ruled against Regulations 126 and 127 of the Nigerian Police, which permit the dismissal of unmarried female officers who become pregnant while in service.

In a unanimous decision delivered by Justice Olubunmi Oyewole, the court declared the aforementioned regulations illegal. The three-man panel, which included Justices Bukola Banjoko and Okon Abang, called for a comprehensive review of the entire Police Regulations to align with modern societal standards governed by the rule of law.

Super Eagles: Don’t Impose Problematic Assistants On Finidi – Udeze

The judgment stemmed from a suit filed by the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) challenging discriminatory practices within the Nigerian Police Force. The legal battle began on February 15, 2021, when the NBA filed an originating summons contesting Regulation 127, which mandates the discharge of unmarried pregnant policewomen from the force.

The NBA argued that this regulation contravened Sections 37 and 42 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and sought its nullification. Despite an initial dismissal of the case by Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, the NBA pursued an appeal.

Security, Govt Officials Turned Banditry into Business Venture — Governor

In its ruling, the Court of Appeal overturned the Federal High Court’s decision, emphasizing that Regulations 126 and 127 infringed upon the privacy and rights of female police officers. Justice Oyewole criticized the regulations for gender bias and emphasized that morality and discipline should not be selectively enforced based on gender.

The court’s decision highlighted the constitutional rights of female officers and the need for equitable treatment within the police force. It urged a reevaluation of the entire Police Regulations to ensure compliance with constitutional provisions and modern societal values.

The Court of Appeal allowed the appeal, nullified the decision of the lower court, and granted the reliefs sought by the NBA. Parties involved were instructed to bear their respective costs.

This landmark ruling underscores the importance of upholding gender equality and individual rights within law enforcement agencies, signaling a significant victory for gender justice in Nigeria.

Ejes Gist News recalls that Woman Police Corporal (WPC) Olajide Omolola was dismissed from the police force and had her police insignia and uniform removed in January 2021. This incident sparked widespread controversy and debate about the treatment of unmarried pregnant women in the police force.

Super Eagles: Don’t Impose Problematic Assistants On Finidi – Udeze

Former Super Eagles defender, Ifeanyi Udeze has warned the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) not to impose ambitious assistants on new head coach of the team, Finidi George.

Finidi is currently shopping for his assistants, with former internationals, Emmanuel Amuneke and Daniel Amokachi reportedly in contention for the position.

Amokachi and Amuneke also applied for the Super Eagles head coach role.

Udeze, a member of the Super Eagles squad to the 2022 FIFA World Cup co-hosted by Japan and South Korea, said imposing assistants on Finidi will be counter-productive.

“I don’t want to see an ex-player who will come and give Finidi problems,” Udeze told Brila FM.

“The NFF must not give him assistants who will try to take the job from him.

“He should instead be given a free hand to bring his assistants.”

Security, Govt Officials Turned Banditry into Business Venture — Governor

Bandits invade Kebbi, Sokoto, sack seven villages

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has raised alarming allegations, accusing certain government officials and security personnel of complicity in the perpetuation of banditry, which he claims has evolved into a lucrative “business venture” for some individuals.

During an interview on Friday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today, Governor Radda expressed his concerns, stating, “Now it has turned out to be a business venture. A business venture for the criminals, some people who are in government; and some people who are in security outfits, and some people who are responsible for the day-to-day activities of their people.”

In recent years, the northern region has been plagued by the activities of criminal gangs commonly referred to as bandits, who have frequently raided rural areas, resulting in numerous abductions and fatalities.

Contrary to the prevailing narrative attributing insecurity to political motives, Governor Radda emphasized poverty and injustice as significant catalysts for the escalating crisis. He debunked claims of political motives behind banditry, asserting that poverty-stricken youths in the north are often lured into joining banditry with as little as N500.

Amidst efforts to address the region’s security challenges, several northern governors embarked on a trip to the United States. Despite facing criticism for holding the meeting abroad instead of within Nigeria, Governor Radda clarified that the meeting was convened at the behest of the United States Institute of Peace.

“The meeting was not at the instance of the selected governors of northern states but it was at the instance of the United States Institute of Peace. They were the people who invited us; they hosted us for the meeting,” Governor Radda explained.

During their visit, the governors engaged in a symposium with the United States Institute of Peace to explore strategies for resolving the security crisis plaguing their region. Governor Radda highlighted the importance of the trip, stating, “Ten governors were in the United States, Washington D.C and we had a symposium with the United States Institute of Peace so that we can bring about ideas that will end insecurity that is worrying our people.”

The symposium provided a platform for the governors to exchange ideas and interact with stakeholders involved in promoting global peace and security, offering fresh insights into combating insecurity within their respective states.

Governor Radda’s allegations underscore the complexity of the security landscape in Nigeria, raising questions about the extent of collusion between criminal elements and elements within the government and security apparatus.

Singer, Iyanya Fumes Over Comparison With Wizkid

0

Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, the famous Nigerian singer, who is popularly known simply as Iyanya, has reacted after a social media user downplayed his musical achievements while explaining why Wizkid is “hated” in the music industry.

A social media user with the X handle @itzbasito had written: “Wizkid’s only crime is surpassing the benchmark set for him and becoming the benchmark himself” to which another user @Xperience_Snr reposted, saying expectations for Wizkid is for him to end up like Iyanya and Samklef.

The X user wrote, “Same reason why Drake gets a lot of hate. The whole entertainment industry didn’t expect that little tiny white boy to get that far.

“Wizkid was supposed to end up like Samklef and Iyanya.”

His argument didn’t sit well with Iyanya, especially the insinuation that his once-buzzing career didn’t live up to expectations.

Quoting the tweet, Iyanya fumed: “You will end up like your father.”

In another post, the singer lamented: “This space is toxic, y’all just wake up and undermine a creative’s years of work.”

Obaseki Is Owing Civil Servants Arrears Of Six Months APC Guber Candidate Faults 70,000 Minimum Wage, Refers To It As

0

Sen Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress, APC, gubernatorial candidate in Edo State has taken a swipe at the governor, Godwin Obaseki over the approval of ₦70,000 as the minimum wage for workers in the state.

Okpebholo, in a statement issued to journalists on Friday on the political developments in the state ahead of the September 21 governorship election in Edo State, said the minimum wage for workers is a “Greek Gift”.

Okpebholo also described the minimum wage announcement for civil servants as a deliberate distraction, insisting that Obaseki should address real issues.

The APC candidate further challenged Obaseki to give accountability of N5 billion approved by the Federal Government as palliative to cushion the hardship on civil servants.

He recalled that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved N5 billion for each state and the FCT in 2023 to enable them to procure food items for distribution to the poor and pay civil servants a certain amount for six months, but Edo state civil servants did not receive the money.

Okpebholo alleged that Obaseki had kept aside the N5 billion to pursue the governorship election in September.

He said: “Governor Obaseki is actually owing Edo civil servants arrears of six months.

“Like other states, Edo got N5 billion from the federal government to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal. In FCT, civil servants were paid an additional N35,000 for six months.

“Other States did the same thing and distributed palliatives to them. In Edo State, Governor Obaseki has been mute.

“No civil servant got any extra money like their counterparts in other States. Let us begin the conversation from there.

“Obaseki should explain to Edo civil servants and Edo people what he did with the N5 billion. Nobody in Edo State has gotten any palliatives or cash transfers from the Edo State Government. What has Obaseki spent the money on?”

Drama As Nigerian Pastor Orders Bride To Remove Eyelashes At Wedding

Jessica Okah, the bride, disclosed this incident on TikTok, mentioning that the pastor had raised the issue of her eyelashes before the wedding day.

Jessica Okah

A Nigerian bride shared her experience of how her pastor instructed her to remove her false eyelashes during her church wedding.

Jessica Okah, the bride, disclosed this incident on TikTok, mentioning that the pastor had raised the issue of her eyelashes before the wedding day.

However, she said she had completely forgotten about it and thought it would be overlooked during the wedding.

She said, “What would you do if your pastor asked you to remove your lashes in the middle of your wedding ceremony? It was like a movie, but it was happening for real.

“After my husband’s family accepted me, that’s when my pastor realised that he told me the day before that I wasn’t supposed to wear lashes to the wedding ceremony.

“Let me not lie, I didn’t have a problem with it anyway, but truthfully, I forgot.

“He said before the service had to continue, I had to go and remove the lashes.”

She shared a video that captured the moment her pastor stopped the wedding proceedings over her eyelashes and resumed the ceremony after she had taken them off.

Oyo Nurses Threaten To Embark On Indefinite Strike, Issue 14-Day Ultimatum

0

The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives in Oyo state have threatened to embark on an indefinite strike if their requests are not met.

They issued a two-week ultimatum to the state government.

In a letter addressed to Governor Seyi Makinde‘s led government on May 2, 2024, the council expressed their decision after a meeting held on Tuesday to discuss issues related to the well-being and career advancement of nurses employed by the state government.

The letter, titled ‘Notification of 14 days ultimatum,’ was signed by the council’s Chairman, Adeyemi Samuel, and Secretary, Aina Emmanuel.

The nurses’ demands include addressing staff shortages, rectifying incorrect promotion dates on letters, and implementing the adjusted Consolidated Health Salary Structure, among other issues.

The ultimatum, which began on May 2, 2024, will conclude on May 21, 2024. If their demands are not met, the indefinite strike will commence at midnight on May 22, 2024.

Nigeria is currently witnessing a significant outflow of healthcare professionals, including nurses and midwives, due to factors such as inadequate compensation, escalating insecurity, insufficient diagnostic facilities, unfavourable working conditions, and economic challenges.

In October 2023, Michael Nnachi, the President of NANNM, informed journalists that on a weekly basis, nurses and midwives submit applications to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, seeking either to depart the country or be relieved of their responsibilities.

During the period of 2017 to 2022, Nnachi stated that more than 57,000 nurses migrated from Nigeria in search of better opportunities overseas.

As a result of this significant exodus, the remaining nurses are burdened with excessive workloads.

“Our prayers include – Mass recruitment of Nurses and Midwives/Nurse Educator into Hospitals Management Board, Primary Health Care Board, the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomosho and Oyo State College of Nursing Sciences, Eleyele, Ibadan, to address the gross shortage of staff to improve health care delivery in the state.

“Correction of the wrong notional date on the promotion letters issued to our members. Adoption and implementation of the 25 per cent CONHESS adjustment circular for Nurses and Midwives working with the Oyo State Government.

A spokesperson for the Electoral Commission confirmed the incident, stating, “Mr. Johnson was unable to provide the required identification to cast his vote. Our staff tried to assist him, but unfortunately, he did not have the necessary documents.”

The local election officials also corroborated the story, saying, “We had to follow the rules and couldn’t make an exception, even for a former Prime Minister.”

The incident has sparked a debate over the controversial voter ID laws, which were introduced by the Conservative government in 2022. Opponents argue that the laws disenfranchise vulnerable voters, while supporters claim they prevent electoral fraud.

Labour Party spokesperson, Emily Thornberry, said, “This incident highlights the absurdity of the government’s own rules. If a former Prime Minister can’t even vote, how can we expect ordinary citizens to navigate this complex system? It’s a clear example of the government’s voter suppression tactics. We need to repeal these laws and ensure every citizen can exercise their right to vote.”

The Liberal Democrats, who have also opposed the laws, added, “This is a clear example of the government’s voter suppression tactics. We need to repeal these laws and ensure every citizen can exercise their right to vote.”

Johnson’s office has declined to comment on the incident, but sources close to the former Prime Minister say he is “frustrated” and “disappointed” by the situation.

The incident has sparked a wider conversation about the need for electoral reform and the importance of ensuring every citizen’s right to vote.

Over the past two weeks, the naira has experienced considerable depreciation, marking a contrast to its strong performance in March, where it was hailed as the best performing currency globally by Goldman Sachs.

The new month began on a negative trajectory for the naira, witnessing a 0.74% decline to N1,360/$ compared to the final trading day of April.

In response to these fluctuations, the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise (CPPE) has urged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to take action to curb inflation and instill stability to facilitate business planning.
