Federal High Court in Lagos Dismisses AMCON Case Against Senator Ifeanyi Ubah after joining APC. 

The Federal High Court in Lagos has made a significant decision by dismissing a case filed by the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) against Senator Ifeanyi Ubah and his company, Capital Oil and Gas Limited. This case revolved around an alleged indebtedness of N135 billion.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo took this action in response to an oral application by AMCON’s counsel, Oluwaseun Onabowu, who sought the withdrawal of the lawsuit. Notably, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represents Anambra South Senatorial District, was absent during the court proceedings.

During the previous court session on June 13, the court had directed that criminal summons be issued against Senator Ifeanyi Ubah and his company, Capital Oil and Gas Limited. This action was part of the Federal Government of Nigeria’s criminal prosecution of the Senator, involving an 8-count charge related to his alleged indebtedness to AMCON.

In the recent court proceedings, the complainant’s counsel informed the court that a consent judgment had been reached in a related case before the Federal Capital Territory court in Abuja.

As a result, both parties had agreed to withdraw the case against Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in Lagos. Therefore, the counsel urged the court to strike out the charges filed against the defendants.

 

The defendants’ counsel, Mrs. Ifeoma Esom, also confirmed in court that agreements had been reached with the complainant.

In his ruling, Justice Oweibo ordered the charge to be struck out.
